Canaan Historical Society Celebrates ‘Declaration Day’!

On June 25, members of the Canaan Historical Society and the local community turned out on a beautiful summer day to commemorate the area’s quest for independence from colonial British rule. Over a week before the 13 colonies’ Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, citizens from our area voted to separate from British governance.

This summer’s celebration included a parade, choral singing and the unveiling of a historical marker at the Historical Society’s Meeting House. Special thanks to Richard E. Lindmark for the photographs he took of the event.
